Applications and selection notes

The gasket is the cheapest yet most critical part of a flanged joint. The choice follows four inputs: pressure class, service temperature, fluid and flange face. Soft gaskets suffice on low pressure 150# lines, spiral wound gaskets serve process lines, and metal ring gaskets are used on RTJ faces from 600# upwards.

For spiral wound gaskets, state the winding and filler material separately: graphite filler leads at high temperature, PTFE in chemical resistance. See how to select a flange gasket for the full method.
