Selection and ordering notes
In a slip-on flange the pipe slides inside the flange and is held by inner and outer fillet welds. Alignment tolerance is generous and fabrication is easier, but the weld root meets stress more abruptly.
It is common on low and medium pressure water, air and general service lines. The inner weld must not be skipped, otherwise the root area stays exposed to corrosion. Class 1500 covers very high pressure service; with greater body thickness and bolt load, controlled torque during assembly is critical. See weld neck or slip-on for the details.
