In a slip-on flange the pipe slides inside the flange and is held by inner and outer fillet welds. Alignment tolerance is generous and fabrication is easier, but the weld root meets stress more abruptly.
It is common on low and medium pressure water, air and general service lines. The inner weld must not be skipped, otherwise the root area stays exposed to corrosion. RTJ faces are frequently specified from class 600 upwards, and gasket and stud selection must follow that form. See weld neck or slip-on for the details.
