Selection and ordering notes
A lap joint flange comes in two pieces: a stub end welded to the pipe and a loose flange rotating over it. Bolt holes align easily, which shortens assembly on lines that are opened often.
On expensive alloy lines only the stub end in contact with the fluid needs to be alloy, while the backing flange can be carbon steel, which reduces cost. Class 150 carries roughly 19 bar at ambient temperature, and that value drops markedly as temperature rises. It is the most common class on general service lines.
