Selection and ordering notes
A lap joint flange comes in two pieces: a stub end welded to the pipe and a loose flange rotating over it. Bolt holes align easily, which shortens assembly on lines that are opened often.
On expensive alloy lines only the stub end in contact with the fluid needs to be alloy, while the backing flange can be carbon steel, which reduces cost. Class 900 is used on high pressure hydrocarbon and steam lines, where material certification and traceability are usually requested at level 3.2. See flange types guide for the details.
