A blind flange is a solid flange with no bore that closes the line completely. It is used for line termination, maintenance isolation, pressure testing and capping spare outlets.
Because pressure acts on the whole face it is thicker than other types of the same size and class, so stud length is calculated differently. Class 400 sits between 300# and 600#, and the face raise increases to 6.4 mm, so gasket compatibility with the mating flange must be checked. See what is a blind flange for the details.
