Knife gate valves are designed for lines carrying solids. The sharp edged gate cuts through slurry, fibre and particle beds as it closes, where a conventional gate valve would start leaking quickly. They are common in mining, pulp and paper, waste water, cement and sugar plants.
Solids content, abrasiveness and the expected tightness drive the selection. Unidirectional and bidirectional types differ, so state the flow direction when ordering.
